North Hudson is a narrow village stretched along the river, and its concrete divides on elevation more than on address. Down near the water, in the older core and along the riverfront, houses run from the late 1800s through the 1940s and their garages are frequently detached and unheated, on slabs poured decades after the house. An unheated slab has to be warm enough for the polyurea to cure, and an old slab gets read before it is quoted: concrete that age is often thin, sometimes has no vapor barrier under it, and usually carries a coat of floor paint somebody rolled on. Behind and above that band, the 1960s through 1990s build-out is conventional attached two-car garage stock on slabs that grind predictably. Anything within a block or two of the St. Croix carries more ground moisture than the ground uphill, so a lower level or walkout down there gets tested before a coating goes on it. Highway 35 runs through the middle of the village, and the salt off it comes into garages on tires all winter.
