Utility Room Coatings · Star Prairie, WI · Est. 2003
Star Prairie is a St. Croix County village of about 700 on the Apple River, five miles north of New Richmond on Highway 65. It sits on the line between the Town of Star Prairie and the Town of Stanton, and a stream called Saratoga Spring joins the river in the middle of the village. About 50 minutes north of River Falls. We install polyurea + polyaspartic floor coatings for Star Prairie homeowners: diamond-ground prep, custom flake colors, 1–2 day install, written 15-year warranty. A small older village core, a mid-century through 1990s layer around it, newer houses on the edges, and farm country in every direction where the shop or the pole barn holds more concrete than the house does.
Utility Room Coatings in Star Prairie
Star Prairie is small and its concrete is straightforward, with two local wrinkles worth knowing. The first is water. The springs here run cold and never stop, which is why the trout farm on the Apple River has raised fish on this spot for a century and a half, and it also means the ground near the river holds moisture all year. A basement or a walkout on that low ground gets a moisture test before a coating goes on it. The second is grit. Most of the roads through the Town of Star Prairie and the Town of Stanton are gravel, so what lands on a garage floor here is sand and crushed rock rather than the road salt that chews on a slab in town. Sand scours bare concrete and dulls floor paint; a polyurea coating takes it without cutting through. Outside the village the building with the largest floor is usually a pole barn or a machine shed.
Star Prairie mudrooms take gravel-road dust and sand more than salt. Polyurea sweeps and hoses clean, and the room is normally coated with the garage it opens onto.
Why we don't install epoxy in Star Prairie
Most utility rooms have one of three floor finishes: bare concrete, concrete paint (peeling within a year or two), or vinyl tile (lifting at edges from moisture). All three fail in the same conditions utility rooms see daily: water, detergent, dropped tools, road salt. A polyurea coating ends the cycle: it bonds mechanically into the concrete, doesn't peel, doesn't lift, doesn't soak up spills.
Bottom line: utility rooms see the same conditions as a garage or basement, just at smaller scale. Same coating system applies. Same warranty. The only thing that changes is the room size and (often) the install duration; most utility rooms are done in an afternoon.
Star Prairie Pricing
Standalone pricing is below. Most homeowners save 30-50% by bundling utility rooms with a larger garage or basement install; equipment is already on-site, so the marginal cost is materials + 2-4 hours of crew time. Mention any adjacent utility spaces at quote time.
small laundry or mudroom
100-200 sq ft
large workshop or hobby room
Standalone minimum is ~100 sq ft (jobs smaller than that don't pencil). For utility rooms attached to a larger project, there's no real minimum. We'll add a 30 sq ft mechanical closet to a basement install for the cost of materials. Send four photos and Dave will quote bundle pricing same-day.
The 6-step install
Same checklist on every floor. The reason our coatings still look new at year ten when the cheap stuff peeled in year two.
