Utility Room Coatings · Red Wing, MN · Est. 2003
Red Wing is the Goodhue County seat, on the Mississippi at the head of Lake Pepin, wedged between the river and the bluffs. It is the southern end of the corridor we run down the river from River Falls, about 45 minutes on Wisconsin 35 and across the bridge at Hager City. We install polyurea + polyaspartic floor coatings for Red Wing homeowners: diamond-ground prep, custom flake colors, 1–2 day install, written 15-year warranty. An unusually old core for a city this size: 1870s-1910s river-town Victorians and brick commercial buildings downtown and on the bench streets under the bluff, 1950s-1970s housing through the West End and Burnside, and newer construction up on the ridge and out toward Hay Creek.
Utility Room Coatings in Red Wing
Red Wing is built on a bench between the Mississippi and the bluffs, and that geography decides most of the concrete work here. Houses on the bench streets under Barn Bluff and along the historic core are 1870s to 1910s, and their garages are often detached, unheated, and standing on slabs poured decades after the house. Anything cut into the hillside takes water from uphill, so basement and lower-level slabs in that band are the ones we moisture test first. The West End and Burnside are the post-war half of town with 1950s-1970s attached garages that behave normally. Hay Creek and the newer ridge developments have modern slabs that grind clean. Red Wing also has more industrial floor than a town of 16,000 normally would, because the shoe company, the grain terminals and the river industry are all here.
Red Wing utility and mudroom floors are usually coated alongside a garage or basement. The room takes river-valley damp, road salt and boot traffic, and polyurea handles all three without staining.
Why we don't install epoxy in Red Wing
Most utility rooms have one of three floor finishes: bare concrete, concrete paint (peeling within a year or two), or vinyl tile (lifting at edges from moisture). All three fail in the same conditions utility rooms see daily: water, detergent, dropped tools, road salt. A polyurea coating ends the cycle: it bonds mechanically into the concrete, doesn't peel, doesn't lift, doesn't soak up spills.
Bottom line: utility rooms see the same conditions as a garage or basement, just at smaller scale. Same coating system applies. Same warranty. The only thing that changes is the room size and (often) the install duration; most utility rooms are done in an afternoon.
Red Wing Pricing
Standalone pricing is below. Most homeowners save 30-50% by bundling utility rooms with a larger garage or basement install; equipment is already on-site, so the marginal cost is materials + 2-4 hours of crew time. Mention any adjacent utility spaces at quote time.
small laundry or mudroom
100-200 sq ft
large workshop or hobby room
Standalone minimum is ~100 sq ft (jobs smaller than that don't pencil). For utility rooms attached to a larger project, there's no real minimum. We'll add a 30 sq ft mechanical closet to a basement install for the cost of materials. Send four photos and Dave will quote bundle pricing same-day.
The 6-step install
Same checklist on every floor. The reason our coatings still look new at year ten when the cheap stuff peeled in year two.
