Surface Prep & Repair · Glenwood City, WI · Est. 2003
Glenwood City is a St. Croix County city in the east of the county, on Tiffany Creek where Highways 128 and 170 meet. It calls itself the City of 57 Hills, the St. Croix County Fairgrounds are here, and the town was laid out in 1885 along a Wisconsin Central rail line that is gone now. About 45 minutes east of River Falls. We install polyurea + polyaspartic floor coatings for Glenwood City homeowners: diamond-ground prep, custom flake colors, 1–2 day install, written 15-year warranty. Older than the size suggests. Glenwood City had more residents in 1900 than it has today, so the core is heavy on pre-1920 houses and commercial buildings, with a mid-century layer and modest newer building on the edges. Farm country surrounds it.
Surface Prep & Repair in Glenwood City
Glenwood City is called the City of 57 Hills, and the name does real work on a concrete job. A house built into a slope has ground uphill of its lower level, and water moves downhill through that ground whether anybody wants it to or not, so a basement or lower-level slab on a hillside lot here gets tested before it is coated rather than after a coating lifts. The other local fact is age. The city had more residents in 1900 than it has now, so the core around Oak and Maple is heavy on pre-1920 houses and commercial buildings. Where those slabs are original they tend to be thin, poured without a vapor barrier under them, and painted at some point nobody remembers. That is prep, not a disqualifier. Outside the city limits the surrounding town is farm ground, and the biggest floors out there are in pole barns and machine sheds that see equipment, fuel and gravel.
Glenwood City prep is old concrete and hillside water. The pre-1920 core brings thin slabs, prior paint and spalling; the hills bring moisture readings that decide whether a floor needs a primer first. We diamond grind to bare concrete, remove failed paint and coatings, repair spalled edges, fill cracks with polyurea and test before an install is quoted.
Why we don't install epoxy in Glenwood City
Surface prep is where cheap coating installs get cheap. Acid etching takes 30 minutes with a $40 jug of muriatic acid; diamond grinding takes hours with $30,000 worth of equipment. The cost difference is why some installers acid etch, and the bond difference is why those floors peel. Here's the head-to-head:
If a coating contractor offers to "save you money on prep" by acid-etching, that's the moment to walk away. The prep is the foundation of the install; saving 30 minutes on prep guarantees a re-install in 18 months. Diamond grinding is the only surface prep we do, and it's included in every coating price.
Glenwood City Pricing
For a coating install, prep is included in the per-sq-ft coating price: never a separate line item, never an upsell. For standalone prep work (sub-contracting to another coating contractor or repair-only jobs), pricing depends on slab condition + scope.

Standalone prep is typically a contractor-to-contractor arrangement, but homeowners with damaged slabs sometimes commission repair-only work as a stopgap before a future coating install. Send photos + scope and Dave will quote.
The 6-step install
Same checklist on every floor. The reason our coatings still look new at year ten when the cheap stuff peeled in year two.
